Overview of Senior Services

Studies Of Interest:

  1. One out of ten people will acquire some form of dementia.

  2. Increased participation in cognitive activities is significantly associated with a reduced risk of dementia as well as reduced rates of memory decline.

  3. Mentally stimulating activities, such as reading, playing board games doing crossword puzzles, playing musical instruments and dancing, can protect the brain.

  4. 70-90% of individuals develop behavioural symptoms including anxiety, agitation, confusion, frustration, depression and aggression.

  5. Community-integrated, home-based treatment programs can significantly reduced depressive symptoms and improve the health status in chronically medically ill older adults with minor depression and dysthymia

  6. Caregivers should be encouraged to try non-medical coping strategies first.

The gaps in care:

  • Serious senior care problems such as neglect, abuse, nutritional deficiencies, and living in squalor are frequently undetected.

  • Cuts to health care and home care services mean there is less care and attention.

Bartimaeus level of care

Bartimaeus Senior Services offers a level of care and attention that does not currently exist. It is a quality of care beyond the traditional approaches available in our system. Bartimaeus has developed a compassionate care model that meets the needs of people in between basic companion care and medically based health care. Our Senior Services provides for the psychological and social needs of a person, not just their medical and physical needs.

Credibility, experience, reputation

Bartimaeus has sixteen years of experience in caring for children, adolescents, adults with special needs and seniors. We have provided over 1.5 million hours caring for people with special and unique needs. Our services are used by community social service programs, insurance companies, public and private retirement and long term care facilities, ministry of health and ministry of community and family services, and by families directly.

Bartimaeus is owned and operated by professionals in Ontario. Our headquarters are in Burlington, however we provide services throughout the Provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

Our approach to senior care is different

Rather than simply meeting basic needs, we seek to understand the whole person. We look after their physical, mental, spiritual and emotional wellbeing with the dignity they deserve. We also consider an individual's culture, history, place in their environment and family dynamics. In addition to managing the health concerns of our clients, we help them live realistic and purposeful lives according to their unique needs. We believe this means helping people to stay connected in meaningful relationships. We immediately focus on matching clients with an associate who will fit, connect and relate with them.

Quality of care = quality staff

Our staff members are special people and we treat them that way. We look for compassionate, caring individuals who understand the limits, stresses, and challenges that families are experiencing. Bartimaeus Senior Services staff are extremely qualified and knowledgeable. Bartimaeus staff are all graduates of degree or diploma programs and have extensive experience in the social services field. Every one of our staff members undergoes a criminal reference check that includes a vulnerable sector screening.

Services that reflect the needs of families

Families need a quality balanced alternative to trying to do everything themselves. While providing functional support to the senior, Bartimaeus offers the family care providers respect, regular updates and expert consultation. Our involvement gives caregivers the opportunity to connect with their parents, rather than always thinking about the next decision that needs to be made. Our insightful and experienced presence helps to normalise any situation. We also manage and co-ordinate a senior’s plan of care with other social and/or service agencies.

Our philosophy

Our goal is to enhance the lives of seniors and their families by creating meaningful experiences and comfortable connections. We help our clients engage with the world around them. We encourage people to pursue their passions and renew their quests!

Our services are available 24 hours a day,
7 days a week and are on a fee-for-service basis.
